My vision for the Festival developed from a request of my mentor, Sandra
Lloyd who passed away this year. Sandra asked me to plan a Christmas
activity at the museum in 2003. I quickly envisioned Christmas Around the
World, but did not have time to do it that year because it would take too
much planning to accomplish such a dream. The Festival opened in 2004
for it's inaugural year. Mary Kaye Huntsman was the keynote speaker at
the Opening Ceremony.

Once the Dickens Festival left Salt Lake, it seemed like there was a need an
event for families to attend at no cost during the already expensive holiday
season. This Festival was part of a vision to spotlight the our cultural
differences in such a positive way. After several trips to Europe I realized
how wonderful the many cultures of the world were. This also was an ideal
way to encourage diversity and understanding during this amazing time of
year.

Fortunately fantastic groups and individuals supported my visions with
their displays and entertainment. Here's to a wonderful 2006!
